LadyBaby
Ours is essentially a tragic age, so we refuse to take it tragically.
D.H. Lawrence, Lady Chatterley's Lover
Why does my gender and sexual identity now feel fully realized without embodied sexualized representation? The false promise of visibility that we internally compete for, is not politically sufficient yet remains unfortunately paramount to our agenda. @johndeeiere
A reworking of an earlier creation, LADY: Images in a Melodramatic Setting, this incarnation was approached not as a remount but an opportunity for further expression in the pursuit, stance and evolution of the individual. Further questioning the perceptions around social taboos and ramifications of gender, identity and sexuality.
LADYBABY follows a woman – her myth, her sexuality, her stories – into the very clutches of any one notion of ‘identity’. Is her identity hers alone? Or is she simply an idea the audience has formed of her through images that resonate with iconic, yet unsettling familiarity?
