In August 2017, The Dietrich Group invites you to PORTRAIT at SummerWorks Festival. Witness exquisite artists Danielle Baskerville and Robert Kingsbury in DA Hoskins’ reconstruction of a work initiated close to ten years ago.
“A delicious dichotomy continues throughout the work reminding us that there is as much struggle as joy in artistic creation.” — The Globe and Mail
PORTRAIT was first mounted at the former Theatre Centre to critical acclaim and was subsequently selected for the Festival TransAmériques (FTA) in Montreal. A multi-disciplinary dance work with a sound-score by Gilles Goyette and video by Nico Stagias, PORTRAIT lingers in the liminal spaces between performance art, theatre, dance and film, highlighting the creative act itself and dynamics between artist, audience and muse.

Cloud 9, produced by MOonhORsE Dance Theatre, raises the artform to new heights in commissioned works by Lina Cruz and DA Hoskins for some of Canada’s most revered older dancers.
Lina Cruz’s Room #7 is a space-time for three intriguing females, evolving as characters of a comic strip. Legendary performers Louise Bédard, Karen Kaeja and Claudia Moore are a territorial trio, revealing themselves as unusual heroines claiming the right to their small chaotic world, a world including their stage confidant, musician-performer Philippe Noireaut.
DA Hoskins, an artist who thrives on the vitality and expressive immediacy of dance, creates a potent reflection of the self, personally and collectively, in BIRD NESTING IN FINGERS IN BLOOM. Powerful and poetic, DA’s quartet for Cloud 9 is a wordless collision of experience that binds the players’ bodies in a sharing of understanding, a wisdom that renders the illuminations of the self, tactile. Performed by Larry Hahn, Karen Kaeja, Claudia Moore and Robert Regala.

The Coating Project is a guerrilla undertaking by The Dietrich Group. Through it, we explore the body in the vast landscape of the Hearn Generating Station. Images of its singular spaces are layered and inundate the viewer. This work, in partnership with Luminato, offered Visual Artist/Artistic Director DA Hoskins the opportunity to explore the residuals of a once-inhabited landscape. This is a physiological excavation and play of archetypes, suggestive abstractions and occupation.
